Author of the artwork for In Love with Paris
Gérard Ramon was an acclaimed French sculptor whose monumental sculptures of bronze and copper adorn streets and squares in many French cities and private properties all over the world. His life-size sculptures and bronze or terracotta figurines, drawings, and watercolours are purchased internationally by private collectors.
A born and bred Parisian, Gérard Ramon constantly drew and painted his city, and we are happy to share some of his beautiful drawings and watercolours with our readers.
The best introduction to his work is this text written by Australian writer Victor Barker, who spent some time watching Ramon work in his Montparnasse studio:
“To express his inner feelings and the deep emotions of his models as he does is magic, so it seems appropriate that he has chosen for much of his work to turn to the techniques of the alchemist, transmuting baser metals into creations that are indeed gold. From the soft sweep of crayon, through the tactile modelling of clay, Gérard Ramon has now evolved his skills with the tools of the metal fabricator to transform the hardness of bronze and copper into warm, sensual beings.”
