Based in Paris, a major European and world cultural and literary centre, and in Dublin, with its strong tradition for creative writing, Betimes Books specialise in quality fiction from both established and first-time novelists.

We select excellent writing and storytelling and value long-sellers over best-sellers. We do not focus on short-term profit when we decide what to publish.

Digital publishing has given a lot of power back to the authors: they can put their works online and make it available to millions of people all over the world, who can buy it with a click. However, we believe that publishers are still relevant and necessary if they offer editorial contribution, high standard in book design, brand recognition, international promotion and translation rights sales.

With Betimes Books, we aim to create a business model for the internet age: we develop partnerships with authors where our role is connecting them directly to an international readership, via print and electronic publishing, and invest in ongoing digital marketing as well as traditional PR campaigns.

What is the meaning of ‘betimes’ and why Betimes Books? ‘Betimes’ means “before its time” and, beside the meaning and the obvious attraction of the word, we love this Hamlet’s line:

“We defy augury. There’s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now, ’tis not to come. If it be not to come, it will be now. If it be not now, yet it will come—the readiness is all. Since no man of aught he leaves knows, what is ’t to leave betimes? Let be.”
